Hey all! This week, we had a little chat with one of Bella LA’s talented cellists, Leah. Not only is she an enjoyable person to share a stage with, but she also happens to be an all around refreshing and amazing person in general. Here are some fun facts about Leah:
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Los Angeles, CA (in the town of Glendale, to be exact).
What made you decide to play your instrument of choice?
As the daughter of a violin maker father and violinist mother, I was surrounded by music at a very young age. Practically raised in the family violin shop in Los Angeles, I was lucky enough to discover my passion for the cello at the age of four.
What is your favorite meal?
I am a vegetarian, but that doesn’t stop my favorite meal from being a delicious (vegetarian) burrito!
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was little, I thought it might be cool to be a veterinarian since I have always loved animals. My family has always had crazy pets in the middle of the city: Lizards, Snakes, Cats, Dogs, Possums, Pigeons, Chickens, and of course the enormous Sulcata Tortoise that roams my parents’ backyard.
Are there other musicians in your family?
My family actually makes up a string quartet! My mom and sister both play the violin, my dad plays the viola, and I play the cello. But formally, my sister is studying to be an opera singer.
Can you dance?
I took ballet for many years, but I got really into Swing Dancing (Lindy Hop, Charleston, East/West Coast, Balboa, and Blues) while I was a student at Oberlin.
Have an amazing day, everyone!
