Spotlight of the Week: Brittany
Hey all! We recently had a nice chat with the marvelous Bella LA violin and violist, Brittany. Whether she is jamming out onstage or simply hanging out without her instrument in hand, this Bella gal sure knows how to have a blast and spread the fun! Let’s find out more:
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in the Chicago suburbs. The city is one of the most beautiful in the world, nothing beats the beautiful skyline and the architecture.
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I started violin lessons when I was 2 years old and I’ve been stuck ever since.
What is your favorite meal?
Deep dish pizza from Lou Malnati’s in Chicago.
Are there other musicians in your family?
We are all musicians! My mom was a singer/actress/dancer and my step dad a trumpet player. They both own music education companies. My brother graduated from the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music and is now performing in NYC. And my little sister is also a violinist currently studying at Berklee School of Music. My entire family is very supportive.
Can you dance?
I think I can dance! 😉 I’ve been known to have some serious dance party marathons.
What is your pre-performance ritual?
My iPhone was stolen in Mexico City while I was performing, so I take extra care in securing all of my belongings before heading on stage. It gives me peace of mind so I can concentrate on the music.
What’s your favorite memory from a Bella gig?
Performing at the Emmys Governor’s Ball was amazing! We were the opening act and played as all the stars were ushered in after the awards ceremony. The organization required to pull off events of that magnitude is so impressive to me.
What’s the best advice someone has given you?
The squeaky wheel gets the grease!
What is your favorite quote?
“Art is not a mirror to reflect the world, but a hammer with which to shape it,” by Vladimir Mayakovsky. It’s very powerful when art pushes boundaries to help us see the world through different eyes.
If you could go on a vacation right now to any place in the world, where would you choose to go and why?
There are so many places I want to experience, but recently I have been dying to see Berlin, Germany. I would love to explore the street art and the thriving underground music scene. I am fascinated by the people and history of the city.
Here’s to rocking out with the Bellas! Cheers!
